The likely mood. For dogs: alert, let's play, lonely, demanding attention, or relaxed and content. For cats: asking for food, greeting you, wants in, back off, or calm and content.
How sure Barkly is. A confidence level for this one read. It's kept low until Barkly has learned your pet, and it's never a promise that the read is right.
Why it thinks so. The parts of the sound it went on: pitch, how clear or harsh the sound was, how fast the barks or meows came.

If the room was silent or it mostly heard a person talking, Barkly says it couldn't make that one out and asks you to try again, rather than guessing. The listening happens on your iPhone, and your pet's audio isn't uploaded or saved as a recording. There's a sample bark and a sample meow built in, so you can see a read before your pet obliges.
Barkly doesn't translate barks or meows into sentences. Research can sort barks and meows into a handful of situations better than chance, and that's the range Barkly works in. It also can't tell whether your pet is ill or hurting. A new kind of bark, a yelp when touched, or a cat crying in the litter box is a question for your vet, not an app.
Talk with your pet replies in a playful character voice built from your pet's profile and recent reads. It's make-believe, and the app says so. Body-language Scan gives a best-guess mood read from a photo. AI portraits turn a photo of your pet into art. None of these run until you agree in the app, and then your message or photo goes to a third-party AI service to make the reply. The Privacy Policy lists what each one sends and how long it's kept.
